A few people have asked me recently what happens to the cash they donate. Well, here’s the secret: It goes on beer, hookers and cake.
Nah, that’s a lie. Especially the cake.
While all our accounts are made public, sometimes it can be difficult to interpret them if you don’t know quite what you’re looking at. It costs us a grand total of £1,120 to run the station for a year (a number that only ever seems to get bigger). Currently our cash goes into the pockets of five main companies:
- Public Performance License (PPL)
- Performing Right Society Limited (PRS)
- Igniso Limited
- FDC Servers
- LightSpeed Gaming
PRS and PPL get the lion’s share, accounting for 60% of our expenditure. This is because they provide us with licenses which is required to legally play music on the station. After them, Ignisio Ltd get 23% of our cash as they provide our streaming server. After all, if we couldn’t relay our shows to you, there wouldn’t be much of a station? Finally, FDC Servers and LightSpeed Gaming take up the last 17%, these two companies providing our web server and our ventrillo hosting.
But what about the Minecraft server? I hear you cry. Well that is provided to us by the wonderful Krallian, and until recently Tigger provided us a Team Fortress 2 Server. These were procured and provided by them by some dark voodoo and we love them dearly for it. Fortunately our other services, like IRC, are provided free to us, hence their often wobbly nature.
As you can see, none of our presenters get any cash; all their (often expensive) equipment is provided by themselves, and any sundry expenses are usually covered by yours truly.
Now you know we don’t just blow your hard earned cash on beer and cake, I hope you’ll feel more secure in donating to the station. If you have any questions, you can send an email to email@example.com or reply below, and I’ll do my best to answer them.
